Roman's getting ready for a remarkable view
of our universe!
NASA reported on September thirtieth that
its new space telescope passed guidance
tests and took its first coronagraph
observations.
Those guidance checks help the telescope
hold steady.
The coronagraph blocks a star's bright light
so scientists can study much fainter planets
and dust around it.
This is still commissioning, with more
testing ahead.
It's a step toward future science, not a
claim that Roman has already discovered a
new planet.
Before launch, NASA scientist Jeremy Perkins
explained the mission's promise.
So Roman is NASA's next big flagship mission.
And it's really designed to survey the universe and, and uncover
how dark energy and dark matter impact the growth and everything around us.
Roman launched on August thirtieth.
The real cleanroom footage you're seeing was
recorded earlier, while the team prepared
the observatory for its journey.
It's exciting to see years of careful work
turn into the next steps in space.
