I'm Bennett Blackwood.
Timmy's back in the ocean!
This two hundred seventy pound loggerhead
returned to the sea in Key West on August
fourteenth,
after a few weeks of care at The Turtle
Hospital.
Boaters found her struggling south of
Sugarloaf Key in July.
They called the Coast Guard and stayed
nearby until help arrived.
Hospital staff treated her, watched her
appetite return, and made sure she was
swimming strongly before release.
Here's hospital manager Bette Zirkelbach,
speaking at the release.
Seeing the hundreds of people coming out for Timmy's release today, it—
it warms my heart, and I know that that compassion is contagious.
The most important thing we can do to help save sea turtles
is to fall in love with them.
Timmy's estimated to be seventy to eighty
years old.
Her journey is a lovely reminder that
calling for help can make a difference.
