Bennett: I’m Bennett Blackwood.
Help came from the sky! On October first, a sixty-eight-year-old rafter with a leg injury needed a way out of Oregon's remote Rogue River canyon. Local responders couldn't reach the group by road. A Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station North Bend flew in, lowered a rescue swimmer, and safely hoisted him from the riverbank. The crew took him to a hospital in Medford. You're watching the actual rescue. In a separate interview recorded in May twenty twenty-five, North Bend aircrew described the teamwork behind their rescues.
Original interview — May 2025, separate rescue: Teamwork all around. What we do requires a lot of trust.
That teamwork matters! The rafting party carried a satellite communications device, which helped responders coordinate the evacuation. For a remote river trip, pack reliable communications and first-aid supplies, and share your plan with someone ashore. We've added a verified link to the independent Coast Guard Foundation, which supports members and their families. More good stories at Carpe Diem News.
