Volunteers build a sandbag barrier for a children's center in Djibouti — transcript
A line of sandbags can be a small act of care
for children.
I'm Bennett Blackwood.
In Djibouti, Friends of Africa volunteers filled,
carried, and positioned bags around Caritas facilities
in April twenty twenty-six.
The
organization provides education, food, hygiene,
and medical services for children.
An official account says earlier flooding had
damaged
supplies and disrupted the center.
Volunteers focused on places where water could
enter.
Their organizer, Robert Stoppel, explained
the plan in a recorded interview.
There's some key points where water gets in, so we'll be
placing the sandbags on those key points.
The work was intended to reduce future flooding.
It does not prove that later floods were prevented,
or that the buildings are floodproof.
Our
footage shows the real sandbag work, with a separate
photograph of the volunteers.
Caritas's regional website provides the center's
contact
information for people who want to ask how to
help.
Practical work, shared effort, and a little more
protection for a place that matters.
