Allie Smith finds confidence and community through adaptive sport
For Allie Smith, adaptive sport became a way
to find confidence, friendship, and a chance
to encourage someone else.
I'm Bennett Blackwood.
The retired Air Force staff sergeant competed
at the twenty twenty-six Warrior Games in San
Antonio.
Her official athlete biography describes the
community
she found through the Air Force Wounded Warrior
Program, and her interest in mentoring other
athletes.
In a recorded June interview, she talked about
rebuilding
confidence and supporting people who are new
to the Games.
My confidence has overall gotten better. I've never smiled
this much in my life.
This is her own experience, not a promise that
sport is a medical treatment or a cure.
Our separate photograph shows her competing in
indoor rowing on
June eighteenth, twenty twenty-six.
Her interview was recorded the next day.
Competition can be about a finish line.
For Allie, it is also about friendships,
belonging, and helping another athlete discover
what comes next.
Good stories every day.
