A family conch shell helped eight-year-old Sophia Hodek carry on a Key West tradition. I'm Bennett Blackwood. At the March seventh Conch Honk, competitors of every age brought their strongest notes to the Oldest House Museum. Sophia won the girls' division with the decorated shell used by several members of her family. My mom won with this conch, and also my nephew and, uh, siblings, and we also won as a group. Her mother, Angelica, is a past winner too. The free contest, hosted by the Old Island Restoration Foundation, celebrates a local tradition and the people carrying it forward. Our page links to the foundation's museum and history. Good stories every day. Follow Carpe Diem News. Seize the day. Share the good.
