At West Point Lake, one free autumn day turns outdoor recreation into a celebration everyone can share.

The annual Special Day for Special People welcomed its newest gathering on October first, twenty twenty-six. For documented visuals, we’re showing clearly labeled archive footage from the forty-fifth edition on October third, twenty twenty-four, when more than fourteen hundred people gathered at Rocky Point Park. Volunteers and community partners offered pontoon rides, hayrides, music, wildlife encounters, and accessible activities.
Mike Linville, West Point Lake park ranger, original recorded interview: We are dedicated to meeting our local community needs at every avenue that we can, by putting on this special event for this special group of people.
The day began as a small picnic in nineteen seventy-seven. Now it is a major community tradition for people with disabilities and older adults. The West Point Lake volunteer program is linked in our article. Good stories every day. Follow Carpe Diem News.
Seize the day. Share the good.
